a wonderfully unexpected adventure

Have you ever had a dream you've been building in your heart for decades, and then out of the blue, a door opens and you get to step into it?

Well — here we are.

We're Brandon and Erin Whitford. For the last 17 years we've been on an adventure: making films, writing books, raising a family of six, and serving our local church — all with a much-needed coffee in hand and a dream in our hearts.

In April of 2026, that dream came knocking. A conversation with some wonderful friends about buying their coffee shop turned into something we can only describe as a God thing. His provision, His direction, His faithfulness — on full display through every step of it. We're grateful for our friends, and we're grateful for a faithful God.

So we took the reins of The Grind Coffee & Cafe in downtown San Angelo without a clue what we were doing (because let's be honest — nobody actually knows what they're doing), and with a belief that this little shop was the beginning of that dream.

The Grind has been part of downtown since 2020, and we don't take that lightly. This place already has a heartbeat, and it's the people who walk through the door every morning. We've got the best patrons anywhere, and our first job is simply not to mess that up.

From there, we want to build. Open mic nights and live music. Worship nights. Books. Walls that showcase local artists. Partnerships with the people already doing good work in this city. A space where people feel safe, loved, and encouraged, and where relationships get built over a cup of really good coffee.

Because more than anything, we want everyone who walks through these doors to feel the love of Jesus. Not through a sales pitch — through the way we treat you, remember your name, and make room for you.

That's what we want The Grind to be. Not just a coffee shop, but an experience — an honest reflection of our wonderful city and the God we serve. Our roasters source their beans ethically, Serve the best New York Bagels and fresh baked pastries form local bakers, and we pour our hearts into every single cup.

So come sit a while. Order your favorite drink, stay longer than you planned, and push back against the hurried pace of everything else.

We'll save you a seat.
